Campaign groups can't target users as per postcode or political preferences: Twitter
As part of details on the political ad ban, the social media platform has said campaign groups can continue to advertise on political issues but will not be allowed to target small sections of users
In a further development to Twitter’s recent announcement to ban political ads on its platform, the social media platform has now said campaign groups can continue to advertise on political issues but will not be allowed to target small sections of users, media reports said.
In an announcement on Friday, Twitter said election candidates will not be allowed to advertise on the platform but other users, if not linked to legislations or elections, can focus on certain political issues.
Campaign groups will not be allowed to target users on the basis of postcode or political preferences, Twitter has said.
Media reports quoted Twitter Head of Legal and Policy Vijaya Gadde as saying: “It’s a big change for us as a company, but one we believe is going to make our service and hopefully, political outcomes — and the world — better.”
“We firmly believe it is better for us to start trying, and give people a chance to tell us where we’re getting it wrong, than to wait,” Gadde further said, as per news reports.
